I absolutely LOVE calligraphy and hand-lettering! I can be creative, I have been told that I have nice handwriting, and I know I have steady hands [my job requires that people trust me in their mouth with sharp instruments], but for these ladies it seems this form of art comes effortlessly whereas I would need to seriously practice! These are some of my favorite items from a few of my favorite calligraphers and letterers [yes, there is a difference]!
1. 'You Are My Greatest Adventure' Print - Brown Fox Calligraphy
I have recently started decorating with prints. Remember when you would rip out magazine quotes and paste them to your walls, cork board, planner, etc. as a teenager, or write them on your mirror in sharpie or lipstick? This is your grown up/classy way to keep those happy thoughts around! There are so many of these being made right now but of course I'm partial to the girl who made my logo!

2. Partial Calligraphy Address Stamp - Brown Fox Calligraphy
Who doesn't want to send their mail out with a ridiculously cute return stamp? I've made a few of my own with Avery labels, but the white background of a label can look harsh against colored envelopes - stamping looks way more put together! Can't wait to have a home so that I can get one of these by Bri of Brown Fox [ps everything in her shop is 20% off thru June with code HAPPYDAY]

3. 'The Best Part' Print - Lindsay Letters
Take a look at some of her prints and you will see why her business doesn't have the word 'calligraphy' in it like the others - there's a difference in style but the result is still so lovely! Letterers have this amazing ability to create prints where none of the individual letters look the same twice yet everything comes together perfectly! I love this print for a coffee cart because it reminds me of the Folgers commercials, and since the Keurig is the first place I run in the morning, it's a good reminder to read as I await for my addiction to finish brewing!

4. Calligraphy Starter Kit - Laura Hooper Calligraphy
If you're interested in learning calligraphy [like myself], I would recommend this kit! I always happened to be out of town when she was teaching in San Francisco, but I've heard her classes are great and I'm sure the starter kit is awesome! I've stood in the calligraphy aisles at Michaels and other craft stores before and have felt overwhelmed with the options as a beginner. This kit eliminates that helpless feeling by including the basics and what you need as a beginner!

I really struggled with the title of this post: "Throwback Thursday: My Husband is Hot" was a major contender. I never cared about soccer - ever - that was until I met Tyler. I spent half of my senior year of high school at the sparsely attended soccer games cheering him on. His deep love for the sport, rooted from his childhood, got me thinking about more than just Friday night football games. Although he didn't play in college, he played on rec teams and still plays occasionally at soccer meet ups in our neighborhood and when he's really desperate, he'll invite me to the park. I love to watch him play but apparently it's weird for a wife to attend a soccer meet up and cheer.. so I hold back!
As much as I love to watch Tyler play, I never got in to actually watching soccer [David Beckham on the other hand..] but this World Cup has changed that. The games have been so exciting, I love critiquing the uniforms and shoes, the Kia "fútbol" commercials are awesome, and Dempsey's goal in under a half-minute in the opener almost gave me a heart-attack from excitement and extreme pride as an American. I've even found myself watching games when Tyler is not home and texting him about my favorite goals. I was sad about Spain, beaming over Mexico's three second-half goals to dominate Croatia [heritage, people! The rule is I canroot for them as long as they're not playing the US!], and feel so proud hearing fans screaming "I Believe that We Will Win!," "USA! USA!," and  of course "Olé, Olé Olé Olé!" Even non-soccer fans are excited about the games.
We're never favored to win, but I love this team, and "I believe that WE WILL WIN!" Now, don't bother me for the next 90+ minutes.. And if you're not pumped, watch this video! Win or loose, we will always have our American pride!

Recently I was reading one of those annoying pop-up articles from my Facebook newsfeed about how celebrities seem to have it all but there has to be something wrong with them. It was then that I was reminded of this lovely scandal from a few years back:

I really am not a fan of Jessica Simpson.
Never have been. [Sorry, Tosha, and anyone else I may offend!]
Maybe it's how she's acted on two Cincinnati trips that I know of.
Maybe it's the fake baby voice she uses combined with the dumb blonde act.
Maybe it's the creepy father-daughter relationship she and her dad have.
Maybe I'm just confused as to how she got Nick to marry her.
Or why she sold her marriage to gain fame from a TV show.
Regardless of all of that, as a hygienist, I actually have a reason to dislike her.
Jessica Simpson doesn't brush her teeth daily.
Wait, what was that excuse?! "My teeth are too white! .. too slippery!" ?! There is one thing to not be ashamed of: she flosses daily [usually the issue is the other way around with patients]. BUT there's a reason we recommend brushing twice daily as well as flossing every day. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "If you don't floss your teeth you're missing 1/3 of your tooth's surface" - if that's true [trust me, it is] she's missing 2/3 by not brushing. Maybe you're not good at math, but that is over a majority of the tooth that doesn't get clean.
    Some people would argue:
  • "But she is removing debris with a shirt or washcloth" - other than the fact that this is gross.. there's a reason we have toothbrushes! The bristles on toothbrushes are formed to go slightly under the gumline to clear debris from the cheek and tongue sides of your teeth [if you're brushing correctly]. A t-shirt, sweater, or washcloth isn't going to provide this same level of clean around the most important part of your teeth: the gumline. Plus, where has that t-shirt been?! This may be enough to keep the visible teeth and gums clean, but is not likely sufficient around the larger back teeth.
  • "But she rinses with Listerine.. that kills all the bacteria" - Yes, Listerine does kill all of the bacteria. By all, it means all, even the good bacteria. Any mouthwash containing alcohol should not be used more than 3-4 times a week or you'll end up killing most of the good bacteria that you need. That being said, maybe she uses Listerine Zero? Either way, here's what she's essentially doing: imagine you have a baking dish with baked on food, you spray it with Lysol then rinse under water while lightly rubbing your fingers over it for 30 seconds. Would you think it's ready to use again for the next meal? No. Sure, you may have killed the germs sitting on top of the baked on food, but there's still old food on the surface! You have to use detergent [toothpaste] and a sponge [toothbrush] to truly clean off the debris or it will continue to pile on.
  • "Her teeth are white, they must be healthy" - the color of your teeth doesn't always reflect the health, it's the color of the gums that really matters! It's sad how often I've had patients who haven't been to the dentist in years and come in requesting whitening. Some practices will do the whitening despite underlying problems as long as there isn't too much build up on the teeth, and most all will at least remove the visible "gunk" before applying the whitening, ergo, a person could have perfectly white teeth without having healthy teeth. Someone could also have perfect oral hygiene yet have slightly darker teeth due to habits such as drinking a lot of coffee, tea, or red wine. In reality, Jessica's teeth are probably as white as they are due to the fact that she can afford to get them whitened frequently - this has nothing to do with the health of her teeth or the "slippery feeling" she refers to.  Since she flosses, it is unlikely she has a gum color that would be considered "unhealthy" in areas that are immediately visible when she smiles, but I would be interested to see the gumline around her back molars. This is an area that even patients who do brush daily have difficulty keeping clean so it could present a big problem in someone who only brushes maybe 3 times out the the recommended 14 times a week.

What I would recommend: I don't know anyone who doesn't like that squeaky clean feeling on their teeth. As Jessica's dentist told People after hearing her revelation, "People pay us a lot of money for that slippery feeling. It’s kind of the best part." Obviously I want everyone to brush and floss daily. If, like Jessica, you feel your teeth are already "too slippery" so you've chosen not to brush, I'd recommend dry brushing [brushing without water/toothpaste]. If you try that and it's still too much, dry brush at least at the gumline. This combined with flossing ensures that the gums stay healthy enough to do their job of keeping your teeth in place without making the teeth completely smooth like toothpaste will do. Ensure you are flossing daily, drink plenty of water and do "tongue sweeps" throughout the day [especially before and after meals] to help keep debris from sticking.
When it comes to your teeth, don't be a Jessica Simpson! Her teeth may be white, but it's not likely her gums are a healthy color!

Jumpsuit: asos | Sunnies: old Banana Republic [similar] | Earrings: Francesca's [similar] | Necklace: Charming Charlie | Bracelet and Watch: Premier Designs | Purse: old but loving this one
Ever since Tyler told me he thought I'd look good in a jumpsuit and I whipped out my never-worn, tags-still-on, grey one to surprise him in Vegas.. I've been addicted! They are so easy to throw on and you don't have to match a top and bottom. Despite the fact that they're pants, they are usually made with lighter fabric and actually pretty cool - plus, unlike its cousin the maxi-dress your legs don't stick together when it's hot out. Added bonus: I haven't found one yet that is uncomfortable. The only downside I see to these one-piece wonders is the fact that you have to completely undress to go to the bathroom - not exactly my first concern.
Due to the busy print on this jumpsuit, I kept the necklace simple and went with white arm candy to bring out the white background. Looking back - I wish I had worn my white purse! I'll be the first to admit that the print/color on the purse I chose clashes with the jumpsuit but the handle on my plain rattan purse broke off and I wanted to keep the tropical theme so I grabbed this one on the way out.
Happy Monday! Here's to hoping you have a great week!

Dad&Me
In honor of Father's Day coming up, much love to this mustached Mexican who taught me how to drive and provided some of the fondest childhood memories! Don't forget to love on your dads this weekend! Now for some Alan Jackson [with my own edits].

"A piece of my childhood that'll never be forgotten:
It was, just an old pontoon boat
75 johnson with electric choke
A young girl, two hands on the wheel
I cant replace the way it made me feel
And I would turn it shore line, and, make it wide
He'd say, ya can't beat the way an old boat rides
Just a little lake across the Indiana line
But I was king of the ocean, when daddy let me drive.."

I am so in love with all of the new graphic prints this summer, especially the pineapples! I purchased the dress pictured above during J. Crew Factory's 50% off sale and absolutely adore it despite having to send it back for another size! [may want to go a size up on this dress if you're larger in the chest area]. The two Target tanks are so fun and perfect for summer. Coming from California, I had forgotten how HOT the East Coast can get with humidity - these were not a planned Target purchase [what ever is?!] but I was so hot running errands one day that I grabbed them thinking I'd slip into them later if need be. Modeled after my favorite Target v-neck tees, they're light and breathable as well as an amazing steal at under $10! The cute palm tree tee is on sale at J. Crew and also comes in a cute white with gold foiled palms! Links for each item are listed below!
Top Left: J. Crew Factory Pineapple Dress | Top Right/Bottom Left: Target Merona® Slub Tanks | Bottom Right: J. Crew Palm Tee
Also crazy popular this year is the palm leaves print, I just haven't personally found anything I love for myself! Have a great weekend!
