Planning a Cross Country Road Trip

As you may know, in less than a month we are moving across the country from San Francisco, California to Charlotte, North Carolina. As if getting ready for that wasn't crazy enough, we've decided to drive across the country. It was an on-and-off "yes, we're doing it" and "no, that's crazy" decision-making-conversation - but almost every adult we talked to [yes, I know we're technically adults] told us to "do it while you're young" so, last night we made the decision to go for it and started planning our once-in-a-lifetime trip!
We have it set up so that the movers come the 23rd of April and we get our keys to the new place on May 9th. Since we're only in each apartment partial months, we've had each rate prorated and are using the "saved" amount as well as the price of what we would have spent on airline tickets as our budget for the trip. It also helps that we have Marriott points galore! Below is our tentative travel schedule with a few ideas - if you have any ideas to share, must-see places along the way, or [most importantly] food stops, we'd love to hear!
